The UBC Divisions of Cardiology & Cardiovasular Surgery provides a comprehensive range of tertiary and quaternary cardiology sub-specialty services and programs, including ambulatory and inpatient consultative cardiology, specialized clinics including heart function, cardiac intensive care, electrodiagnostics, cardiac ultrasound, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, nuclear cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, cardiac transplantation and ventricular assist, atherosclerosis risk reduction and cardiac rehabilitation, and advanced cardiac imaging.
Under the guidance of the Shared Care Committee (a collaborative partnership of the BC Ministry of Health and Doctors of BC), a working group of cardiologists, family physicians, patients, clinic assistants, and administrators have developed a regional referral form to improve patient care. This new form streamlines and replaces several dozen other forms and allows specialists, emergency doctors, family physicians, and nurse practitioners the ability to refer directly to both private offices as well as to any of the 30 ambulatory cardiology clinics located throughout Vancouver Coastal Health. Concise clinic descriptions and an acknowledgment of referral component are also included, serving as an education piece to the referring provider.
